Ever versitile, azulejos are found on commercial buildings too, where they usually indicate the kind of business that the building houses. In many cases the azulejos have out lived the business they were erected to represent and many buildings are now used for other purposes. Fortunately, the current occupants have not felt the need to remove the signs they have inherited from businesses past. The angel shown here adorns a Lisbon pharmacy, while Casa dos Parafusos, shown below sells screws. The woman pictured below is carrying a milk jug, so no prises for guessing what line of business she is in. So ubiqutios is the advertising azulejo that the ad pictured left is not actually tile at all, but a stciker make to look like tile, so it won't stand out. |
