Metro Station

The azulejos in this station commerate the discoveries. During the 15th and 16th centuries Portugese explorers, like Vasco da Gama, explored the western coast of Africa and found a lucrative trade route around the Cape to the East.
Trade with the East resulted in huge wealth, making the Portugese one of the richest royal houses in Europe. This wealth resulted in patronage of the arts and in elaborate construction projects. Not only are the discoveries worthy of commeration in modern azulejos, but in a way they were responsible for the development of the art form all those years ago.

You can take the train to another Metro station or go somewhere else.
